Studies on Virus Disorder of Top Worked Apple Trees

Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the susceptibility to apple latent virus (which has occurred virus disorder in top-worked apple trees) in seedlings and clonal rootstocks of Malus species which have been the leading apple rootstocks in Korea.
M. prunifolia stem-cuttings were most susceptible as much as 48.5%, but its symptom showed only pitting without necrosis. Only seedlings of M. prunifolia among all tested materials apparently showed both pitting and necrosis, also its damaged occurrence reached to 31.5% which was not quite different from clonal rootstocks in susceptibility. M. Sieboldii showed 24.5% of damaged plants, but did both seedlings and clonal rootstocks of M. baccata, and apple seedlings very low damage.
Tested M7, M26, MM106, and MM111 clonal rootstocks seemed to be tolerant in light of its low damage.
The growth status of infected shoots on the the tolerant rootstock, M. baccata, was as weak as that on the susceptible rootstock, M. prunifolia stem-cuttings.
